Getting Used To New Life
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Alijah, Personal,
Today we went in for Alijah’s first appointment with the pulminologist to check and see how his lungs are doing. They did a checkup on him, and did a test that they called the “Room Air Challenge”. Basically, what they did was take him off the oxygen tank and let him just breathe normal room air. They had an oxygen saturation monitor on him to make sure he kept his oxygen level up. He did good for quite a while, but then his oxygen level started to drop which ended the test. So he failed his first Room Air Challenge today.
What this means is that his lungs arent ready to just breathe normal air just yet, most likely because he is still on the small side. He got weighed today, and he is now at 7 lbs 2 3/4 oz. The doctor did some quick math and determined that he is gaining about one ounce per day, which is exteremely good! He has his next Room Air Challenge next month.
We are finally settling into our new life with having him home. Getting to know his little idiosynchrosies has been fun. For instance:
- When being fed, he likes to thrust his fists into the air as if he had just won a
championship boxing match.
- He enjoys sleeping in noise rather than quiet…probably because he was around so
much chaos for the first 10 weeks of his life.
- When laying on the couch with us, he likes to watch television. We will be playing
with him, and when the TV is on, it gets his attention.
- When he is hungry, he will let you know by licking your face.
- When he is fussy, playing the Winnie the Pooh theme song calms him down.
He is also a pretty strong little guy. He is good at holding his head up on his own.
Onto a totally different subject: Television.
If you have been looking for a television show that is a fast paced hour that flies by very quickly, look no further than The Iron Chef. Monica and I have been enjoying this show for a few months, and like it more and more each time. Seeing two master chefs fight it out to the end is exciting, and appetizing.
The other show that we both really like is The Apprentice. I would say that it is the best show on TV right now, bar none. NBC found a winner in this one, since it mimics the corporate well almost to a tee. If there was any reality show that I would be a part of and actually felt I could have a chance winning, it would be this one.
