Great Oprah / James Frey Discussion at TV Envy
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Blogging, Business,
The girls at TV Envy are doing a fantastic job. Over the past day, since Rhys posted about Oprah confronting James Frey, we have seen some great reader comments come through. I never read A Million Little Pieces, but my wife is - or was - in the middle of it. Seriously though, go over and check out some of the comments.

My iMac 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo Impressions
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Blogging, Business,
Josh Bancroft over at Tiny Screenfuls blogged my impressions of the new Intel iMac Core Duo, so I figured I might as well blog about it as well. Here are my thoughts:
The stock 512 MB RAM was not enough to keep up with my tasks - that being 15 or so Safari tabs open, iTunes, iMovie, and Garageband open and doing their thing, plus Photoshop, Mail, and NetNewsWire open as well. I know, I am not the “average” user - but neither are many of you on this list. Truly, even with just the browser and Mail open, I felt the lag. Impressively though, on the G5 my processor would run at about 60% (with 2 GB RAM) when I had all that running. With the 512 MB RAM, the processor was running at 16%. Amazing.
Yesterday I upgraded this thing to 2 GB RAM. It FLIES. I am more than impressed. iMovie and ffmpegx encode video swiftly compared to the G5. You would not believe how many applications I have open right now. In addition to the ones listed above, I also have Adium, Transmit, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, and ffmpegx all running. I have tons of windows open (the 20? screen makes this manageable). My processor is currently running at 17%!!! Unreal. I have about 120 MB RAM available as well.
Really - the new iMacs are a thing of beauty if you need an elegant workhorse of a PC.

So, I’m not the best coder on the planet. With some help, I can do some nice things - but not by my lonesome. In trying to set up a podcast and videocast RSS feed that would play nice with iTunes, I came across this FeedForAll tutorial. In essence, it shows you where the tags should go, and what exactly each tag does, and where the information within that tag is displayed in iTunes. Check it out if you are looking to creating an iTunes-friendly feed.
Gear Live TiVo Video Makes Memeorandum, and I Am Importing Old Entries
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Blogging, Business, Personal,
Gear Live just made Memeorandum for the first time, as everyone seems to be enjoying our video interview with TiVo about their newly announced Series 3 DVR. Very cool. We are very happy with the way the interview turned out. If you are into electronics, it is definitely something to check out.
I will be importing old entries from my previous blog into this one throughout the day, so if you see a bunch of entries in your RSS reader from this site that seem outdated, that would be why.

With the launch of the Xbox 360, USA Today (among just about every other publication in the world) asked me to comment on what Microsoft might be doing right or wrong. It seems the angle they were going with was that Microsoft needs to play catch-up with the 360 in order to take Sony’s Playstation market share. I thought they were off base. You can read the article at the USA Today website as well as in today’s paper.

The Girls at TV Envy Are Doing Their Thing
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Blogging, Business,
I must say, I am really delighted and impressed with the work Veronica and Rhys are doing over at TV Envy. Readership for that site has grown the fastest when compared to the other blogs in the Gear Live Media Network, and their posts are interesting and thought provoking. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite sites in the network, and I see big things in the future of TV Envy. Definitely good mass market appeal here. If you are into television, check it out.

While I was getting ready to publish my own personal thoughts about Seattle Mind Camp and how I thought it went (I have just been way too busy traveling over the past week,) I was told to take a look at a wiki by Greg Tallent of BearStorm Media. As it turns out, this guy decided to take the Mind Camp name to organize something called “London Mind Camp.” Huh???
So after putting in countless hours of work to make Mind Camp a success, this guy jumps in and takes the name to apply it to his very different event? Mind Camp worked, and is now known for, because of how it was organized. The amount of time that the event lasted was a big factor in that, going just over 26 hours. The fact that the attendees didn’t have to pay for anything was another factor - we wanted to be sure anyone that wanted to come had no deterrent. BearStorm’s version of Mind Camp is nothing like the real thing.

So Tara Hunt is about to fly in from California to hit up Mind Camp this weekend. In order to save on hotel fees (hey, she is the only one flying in for this thing!) she is gonna stay at our place tonight. I expect her to get in late - but little does she know that she will have to arrive at the Mind Camp venue with me tomorrow at 7:00 AM - a full three hours before the event starts. Last minute details must be done, although I am sure that attendees wouldn’t mind some of the things I am stressing over (it is a free event after all.)
I look forward to meeting Miss Rogue - and getting my alpha Riya account. You hear that Tara?? 😊
